Priscilla Stoddard Dr. JoAnna Kessler English 1301:83029 18 April 2013 Bullying Stopbullying.gov defines bullying as â€Å"unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involve a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time† (stopbullying.gov). â€Å"Traditionally bullying has included overt physical acts (e.g., hitting, shoving) and verbal abuse (e.g., taunting, name-calling) as well as more subtle or indirect actions such as social exclusion and rumor spreading† (Kowalski, Limber S22). There are many types of bullying and how it can be done. In this paper it will show the two types of bullying, the warning signs and effects, and risk factors of bullying.†¦show more content†¦Now, information on the warning sings of bullying: â€Å"There are many warning signs that may indicate that someone is affected by bullying—either being bullied or bullying others recognizing the warning signs is an important first step in taking action against bullying. Not all children who are bullied or are bullying others ask for help† (stopbullying.gov). Stopbullying.org gives multiple signs to look for when a child is being bullied. â€Å"Some signs that may point to a bullying problem are: unexplainable injuries, lost or destroyed clothing, books electronics or jewelry, frequent headaches or stomach aches, feeling sick or faking illness, difficulty sleeping or frequent nightmares, declining grades, loss of interest in schoolwork, or not wanting to go to school, sudden loss of friends† (stopbullying.org). Bullying affects every person in a different way, from the people who are actually bullied to the ones who do the bullying, and also the people who witness the bullying are affected (stopbullying.gov). â€Å"Bullying is linked to many negative outcomes including impacts on mental health, substance use, and suicide.
